Week 2 Home School and Library Trip

Week 2 Home School already and we took the girls to the Library.  Week 1 has gone really well, better than anticipated and expected and we have all really enjoyed it. Grace’s confidence in particular has already been growing.  Aline and Soraya have been in their element and even Nevaeh who really does not want to homeschool at all is enjoying it and seeing that their can be some benefits

Reservations

I have to admit I am loving it, yet, I still have reservations.  Can I keep this up all the time.  What do I do about work? So many unknowns and my biggest fear is making the wrong choice and making it worse for them.

Break Through

Having said that though we have had a huge breakthrough!  Grace has found some books she is really enjoying reading, so much so that we are going back to the library to get more.

Reading is so important and if you can love reading so many other areas follow suit.  However, I fully believe you need to find the right books for your child. That can take awhile.  We are still working on that with Soraya!

Soraya is 5 and she can read but wow when she does not want to it would seem as though she can’t!  One thing I really do not want to do though is put them off and this is the challenge with have in particular with Grace and Alina.  They are both getting put off of learning by the method in which they have been taught.  

Let’s Set the Record Straight

I am not anti school.  Not at all.  In fact Nevaeh loves school is thriving although she puts so much pressure on herself to get everything right which is also an issue but she loves the schooling structure.  I just believe that we son’t all learn the same.  As a previous Trainer I would always be ensuring that every lesson or session incorporated all learning styles but schools so not work the same way.  I also think the teachers are under an enormous amount of pressure to ensure they tick boxes and feel stuck between how they would like to teach verses the way they have too.

Nevaeh Gets Technical

You may recall that I mentioned we joined Craftsy in my previous post, well Nevaeh has embraced some of the more technical aspects of drawing. Normally she drawn anime characters that she makes up.

We walked through the field to find just the right muse (in this case a leaf) and she learnt all about shading.
