Homeschool Trial Day 1

Homeschooling Trial Day 1 – Did not go to plan at all!

You know when you have something all planned out and then, well it just does not go according to your plan.  That is how our first day of Homeschooling Trail has gone!

All change

When I organised the girls homeschooling trial I did it with a pretty much school timetable in mind.  We have set times for everything so there is a structure.  But, I had to go to one of the properties for a washing machine repair and so the timetable went straight out of the window.

Blessing in Disguise

However, there was the best lesson I could have had personally in this change.  Lessons are not confined to the classroom or just when you have dedicated learning time and so I can cut myself some slack!  Sometimes, I can be pretty hard on myself.  When it comes to this homeschooling I worry that I would not be good enough to help them learn what they need too although what I really hope is that I help them to just love learning.  If you can embrace that then so many opportunities open up.

Picnic bucket list

By the time we got back home and the girls had completed their planners and school work the weather improved so we went for a teddy bears picnic which was on Alina’s bucket list.  I’d asked the girls to write a bucket list of things that they wanted to do this summer and thought if we were able to combine some of them during homeschooling it would be such a great way of embracing learning in different environments. The girls loved it and did some of their reading too.  We also got to catch some butterflies which was also a great learning opportunity.

The Thunderstorm

We then had a thunderstorm and poor Alina was petrified, I mean so scared bless her. So, when we came back I helped her to learn more about how thunder happens. It is the noise that scares her, she really does not like it. So understanding how they happen and how lightening happens really helped to understand it better and be less fearful.

I finished up the afternoon by making Nevaeh and Grace some pillow beds which they can use for sleeping or just to chill and read a book.  The girls often want to sleep in each others rooms and as this is the first time we have Nevaeh in her own room this is an easy set up and put away solution for them to be able to do that.
