Laying the Underlay and Vinyl Floor – Week 5 Iveco Daily Van Conversion

Laying the underlay and the Vinyl Floor was such a big aesthetic for the van conversion.

Deciding on the type of Flooring

Deciding in the type pf flooring to use in our van conversion actually took a surprisingly long time.  Laminate, Vinyl, Carpet – What’s best?

Well, here was our criteria

  • Easy to Clean
  • Waterproof
  • Hard Wearing
  • Some sound proofing
  • Homely feel
  • Budget Friendly

Many people use laminate flooring, it is a really popular choice for Van conversions. For Laminate flooring you can either choose to have the self-adhesive type or click lock.

I love the look of the laminate flooring.  We chose not to go with the self-adhesive option as many that travelled to warmer climates said that it lifts.  We also chose not to go with the click lock laminate flooring mainly for weight saving but also for ease of laying the floor.

As we still wanted to have a flooring option that looked good that would clean well, be hardwearing and still have some slight soundproofing we went with Vinyl floor.

Before we laid the Vinyl floor we laid a 3mm foam underlay.  The Vinyl flooring was also 3mm with a foam backing.

Fitting

The underlay was a little tricky to fit at first.  This was mainly due to not having a straight edge to work off.  Once we rectified that it was pretty easy going.  It was also pretty easy to lay the vinyl.  We opted to leave an edge on the vinyl.  The reason we chose to leave a lip was so if there was any spillages, leakages the water would not run underneath, it would sit on top of the vinyl.

If you are choosing the same option of Vinyl flooring then you will need some carpet adhesive, a stanley Knife and some new blades

After a few people from our Facebook Page asked about the products we used I created an easy to shop Van Build List on our Amazon Shop we may get a small commission when you click on our links at no additional cost to you and as always appreciate your support.

Join us in Week 5 Part 1 where we complete some more internal rust protection and deal with yet another leak.  You can also see how our Iveco Daily van Conversion is progressing.
