Installing a Window – Iveco Daily Van Conversion Build Week 4 Pt 2

Installing a Window in our Van was a must for us. Mainly for the girls as we want them to be able to see all the amazing places we visit.  We decided to put the window on the drivers side right next to their seats.  At a later date we may also add a window on the passenger sliding door so they can see out both sides.

I Cut Metal

There are a few times in life where you want to shout from the roof tops ‘I did that!’ This was one of those times.  I cut metal…. Me!

Installing a Window

Installing a window can seem quite daunting and we definitely felt that.  Like many things though, the action isn’t as bad as the thought!  We brought our window from Trade Glass UK on ebay and it was specifically for an Iveco Daily.  We were really happy with the quality and also the delivery.  One thing to be aware of is they do not come with any instructions.  We did a lot of research, thank you youtube ;-).

It did come with all the trim, primer and bond etc… We did use the bond a few times to ensure their was a good seal around the window, as you will see in the video we did have a leak at the start.

The Right Tools

Having the right tools makes a huge difference. We used a jigsaw to cut through the metal and as a heads up you may want a few spare blades.

We did also used a grinder as you will see in the video.  Both tools work great and both tools create a mess!  With the grinder you need to be careful of hot sparks so cover any surfaces and if possible ensure you are able to clear up the fine metal particles.  With the jigsaw the metal filings will be larger than the ones from the grinder but still super sharp.  As with both it is important to clear up all debris especially if, like us, you have pets and children.

Grace has been in her element learning new skills,  it has helped so much with her confidence.  Mark seems pretty happy about passing on his skills and having the 1-2-1 with Grace too.

In the video you will also see our expanding foam work around.  We also used the expanding foam for the small gaps in the floor to finish it off.

New Window

Our next decision was about a window.  We thought it would be better for the girls to have a windoe added where they are sitting.  We may add another one to the sliding too but at the moment we are undecided.

We brought the window from Trade Glass UK on ebay.  We were very impressed with the quality and delivery but make a note, these windows do not come with instruction.  That was a lot of youtube research!

I have to admit I was well chuffed with myself at cutting the metal for the window.

After a few people from our Facebook Page asked about the products we used I created an easy to shop Van Build List on our Amazon Shop we may get a small commission when you click on our links at no additional cost to you and as always appreciate your support.

Join us in Week 4 Part 1 and Week 4 Part 2 to see how our Iveco Daily van Conversion is progressing.  If you missed week 2 we shared rust protecting the floor.
